Album of the Week - Post-Nothing - The Japandroids

The Album of the Week is Post Nothing by Japandroids. It may be five years old but this album still rocks! The drummer, David Prowse is fantastic with his high intensity to go along with that loud guitar tune done by Brian King. Together, their vocals are great with their touch of rock, touch of pop sound. I realize that since this album, they've made newer and maybe even better ones, but this one is just special because I got it when it first came out and still love hearing their songs. The songs I suggest to you are Young Hearts Spark FireWet Hair and Heart Sweats. I particularly love the lyrics from Heart Sweats. They're really cool and well thought out.

Bet My Life - Imagine Dragons

This starts off simple and the focus is mostly on the lyrics but with a little guitar and some strange noises but then picks up into something obviously Imagine Dragons. A strong chanting of slightly heart-wrenching lyrics. It has a nice toe tapping rhythm that won't let you down. Does anyone else think it kind of slightly sounds like American Authors?

EP of the Week - Royal EP - The Royal Concept

This week's EP of the Week is Royal by The Royal Concept! I've been wanting to feature this EP for awhile on Album of the Week but it's not really an album so tada! EP of the Week! I do realize that David Larson is Swedish, but his voice does definitely have its own way that makes it unique and falls into place with the band's style that I do not think comes from just his accent. I first heard them from their song On Our Way, which it seems most people have. The intro of D-D-Dance immediately pumps me up with that fantastic and quick guitar tune so it is most certainly one of the songs I suggest from this EP! I also suggest giving a listen to World On FireRoyal is a great EP and I can't wait for a full album!

Fallingforyou - The 1975

This song is chill. It's slow paced and breathy and something about that makes me find myself falling for it. The first time I heard this song was actually when I went to my first concert which was The 1975 and Bad Suns. This song was so memorable in concert. The story of the lyrics speak to me as well. That Matty Healy is chasing after this girl, who is most likely older than him , judging by him trying to catch up to her in height and that she may just think of him as a little brother.

Beware of Dog - The Griswolds

I'd like to say that this song of the day goes out to about 90% of the people I know. Well, just one lyric. That one that kinda goes like "now you're fucking crazy". Yes, I'm most likely talking to you. Don't worry, we all are. On a more serious note, this is actually a lot of fun. The music is constant and steady but the vocals spice it up with their variation. The tune is so fun that some people say that the lyrics don't match, but just because you're crazy, doesn't mean the fun doesn't have to be sucked out of this song.

Torn Apart - Bastille

A new song from Bastille! They kick it off with a slightly mixed up techno jumble that smoothly transitions into their usual style of lyrics and, of course, Dan Smith's signature voice. This time, their sound is a little quicker paced with back beat that sounds like their own but with a good bit of help from Grades.

Ready for NaNoWriMo?

It's coming! NaNoWriMo! November is National Novel Writing Month! Instead of not shaving your legs or facial hair, you can take the challenge and try to write 50,000 words in thirty days! I will be taking the challenge but I will not be exactly following the rules. I have five books I am working on and it would not exactly be a good idea to start a new one and rush through it just to celebrate the holiday. Instead, I will be writing short stories and posting them here on Fried Bebop (along with my usual posts). So either enjoy the stories or scroll by for your music. Here's the fun part! I will accept any and all story ideas you suggest to me. No matter how difficult. I'll write for any genre, even fan fiction if that's what you desire. Simply shoot me an email at friedbebop@gmail.com . Or, if you have a tumblr, send me a message at friedbebop.tumblr.com . I will start accepting story ideas now but will not begin posting until November first. Happy NaNoWriMo!

Luck - American Authors

Although you may know them from their hit song Best Day Of My Life, American Authors has created the best sound in their song Luck. Their style is so unique and the lyrics are very strong willed. How this has not been used in a movie trailer yet, I have no idea. It just seems like it would fit will in an indie movie trailer about a strong willed person who's going to turn the world upside down.

Got To My Head - Waters

The constant guitar tune that starts right from the first second of this song keeps it balanced as it runs through its story of how this poor guy may have caught a case of the feels for this girl. After a few moments of a cool introduction, this song immediately picks up into a cool rock sound that never tired itself out. The music video is nice and swell with enough cute costume ideas for this Halloween if you're as stumped as me for ideas.

How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep - Bombay Bicycle Club

This song is just so relaxing yet at the same time, this is my jam! The repetitiveness of certain lyrics does not tire itself out because the tune is unique and adds an extra rhythm, mixing itself up so it does not just stutter out the same rift. The music video is actually very cool. Dreams are so crazy and I love this little claymation guy's adventure. This song is out there just to let you know that sometimes a deep breath needs to be taken in and let out. Things can get tense, but you will always be able to find one moment to take a deep breath and that is all you need. And also, never miss sleep because your dreams will miss you.

Down The Drain - Raw Fabrics

This song is great because it feels like it has that classic kind of rock sound but has changed it up. The music video is creative if not weird at times. The metaphors are strong and easy to understand when they write "dreams" on the cake and "influence" on the guy's shirt. They stepped out of the box a bit when they went against the grain and encouraged a big N-O to drugs in this song which is pretty cool because if the D.A.R.E. Program actually went to schools showing this, maybe less kids would fall asleep in class. Raw Fabrics is a small band based in LA that actually rocks and is climbing up to the top. The band consists of Jack B. Franco as vocalist, Justus Dixon as bassist, and Jon Fredrik as the drummer.

Morning Parade - Band of the Week

Morning Parade is an English band consisting of five members that have been together since around 2007. Their name originated from when Phil Titus and Steve Sparrow both worked as a plasterer and laborer, they would have to travel a lot and put in lots of early mornings for their jobs. They would refer to this as the "Morning Parade". This was how the first two actually met before they started a band together. Their sound is a type of Indie rock that sounds a little rough on top but with a smooth center if that makes any sense. I say that because their initial sound is definitely a rock type, but underneath all that you can hear smooth and soothing synthesized tunes. As far as I can see, they have two albums out right now, Morning Parade and Pure Adulterated Joy. I initially heard them from their song Alienation, but I've seen that their most popular song is Headlights so you may know them from that song. I suggest listening to Carousel, Reality Dream and Under The Stars.

Things We Lost In The Fire - Bastille

This song is just so catchy. Bastille commonly talks about dark things and is very contemplative in their lyrics and they do not skimp in this song. Despite it's dark lyrics, this song has a strong tribal beat with the chanting chorus. It's the type of song you'll hear once and you'll find it catching itself in your head later at random moments. The music video is gloomy and fits in with their song and entire theme. But if the girl in the video is one of the things that he lost in the fire, is this just a sequel of Rihanna and Eminem's music video Love The Way You Lie? Not that Dan Smith or any of the boys in Bastille would be abusive to their girlfriends.

All of the People - Panama Wedding

This song keeps up a nice cheery tune with a cool techno sound during the chorus. The message is sung so pleasantly yet is about the unpleasantness of growing up and living in cities full of people. The whole world full of "hurry up and wait". The music video is pretty cool with an extra dash of humor with the bathroom guy. In case you don't like your sound messed with by a video though, I'm also posting a lyric video. It's one of a few I've seen that actually make sense with the lyrics and displaying the lyrics on the suitcases was a nice touch.

Reflections - Misterwives

The lead singer in this song, Mandy Lee, has an absolutely gorgeous voice. She sounds so sweet but balances it out enough that it isn't too ridiculously sweet. The awesome techno rhythm makes this song extremely difficult to sit still while listening to. The lyrics are actually fabulously poetic in away. I especially love the opening stanza of how he didn't exactly tell her she had no chance to be with him. The music video is tons of fun! It's funny how I feel like this is my school every day... like how the other day we couldn't take an essay test because one student couldn't write due to his inflatable costume that overflowed onto the desk. Stay weird, my friends.

Human After All - Twin Atlantic

This song is great with the strong guitar rifts that blast all throughout it. The intensity is set on high from the first sound you hear. This song particularly stands out because the chorus is great and is made even more memorable by the Scottish accent that Sam McTrusty has that does not fade at all in his singing voice like most singers with an accent. It makes the song sound like more than just a heavily guitared alternative rock song especially with the lyrics. The music video is eye catching and dark with such props as the animal masks and filters. Excuse the explicitness of this song.

Album of the Week - Vessel - Twenty One Pilots

This week's Album of the Week is Vessel by Twenty One Pilots. Vessel becomes an addiction. Twenty One Pilots masterfully switches between sounds so much that when I suggest them to a friend and they ask what it sounds like, my reply comes out like gibberish so let's just settle on calling it Alternative. Surprisingly, the group only consists of two musicians, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun. Both from Columbus, Ohio. Their lyrics are crazy brilliant and catchy. You may know them from Car Radio, the song that sounds beautiful with his overlaying dark thoughts worded in a clever rap that turns into intense screamo in a spot then calms down again. You could also know them from House of Gold, not my favorite song of theirs but it is sweet. You should definitely check out Guns For Hands, Screen and Fake You Out but if you're like me, that won't be enough so it's a good thing that their entire album rocks. Before I leave, I've read that someone had compared his singing voice to the hilarious comedian Aziz Ansari and I can hear the similarities. If you're not familiar with his work, in a few shows, he's sung as part of a few of his jokes, (you can check out his comedy sets on Netflix). I definitely call for a comedic genius collaboration between the two!

Doses and Mimosas - Cherub

Doses and Mimosas has the sort of sound that at first makes you question what exactly you hit play on, unless techno is your thing, but the song is extremely catchy with a base that is to die for on the dance floor. When Cherub was interviewed about the song, Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber said that it was written during a time where one of the members was angry and destructive, doing things such as "pouring bleach on friends' carpets". I can understand being mad but what did those carpets do to you? And if I was one of his friends that he did this to, the police would find him hanging upside down from a clothes line by the seven toes I left him with. But this guy has a point, f*** all those people! And that's exactly the mentality you should have cause those people suck! The music video may be an accurate depiction of what happens when one consumes too many doses and mimosas... There is an official music video on Vevo on Youtube but it called for Parental Advisory and I don't think I could even not feel weird about posting that. You're either going to have to wonder about what it looks like forever or just go on Youtube and check it out for yourself. The guys do seem to have a good sense of humor with their video, I just didn't think all the nudity would be appropriate to share.

Ocean - Coasts

I only heard this song a couple days ago but I'm already stuck to it. The lyrics are very poetic but mostly sums up to that clear verse, they fell in love by the ocean. That clear percussion seems to make the song. Their vocalist has a steady voice that matches his beachy song and the feeling it gives. I know it may be fall but I'm going to still pretend its summer anyway. So no complaints! Just enjoy the song!

Runaway - sELF

With some songs, you can tell its a good one in less than a second. This is one of them. It starts with an awesome techno sound that died down and carries more of an undertone for the rest of the song. Matt Mahaffey, the singer is clear and distinct which seems to be almost a rare thing with some of these songs like this. There are some nice lyrics. Stop trying to run away from your problems, people. Easier said than done though, as most things in life are. The music video is absolutely fantastic! I love the cats doing everything! My favorite may be the cat playing the drums! But don't worry! No cats were harmed in the making of this video!
